Description Pain Appendix & VU – The Bunker Sessions is a pure junk metal album, in which the primary instrument is not scrap metal, but the beautiful echo of an exceptional recording space: a large underground bunker beneath Helsinki. The acoustics of these concrete tombs shape the music and atmosphere as much as the performers themselves. Fans of Metgumbnerbone will find clear points of reference here, with comparisons also extending to the work of the Deep Listening Band and even to Tomasz Stańko’s Karla Cave recordings, where echo plays the central role. This release also works as an on-location field recording, as all tools for sound were found within the space, making it even more special.
